Gatsby who represented everything for which I have an unaffectedscornit was an extraordinary gift for hope a romantic readiness suchas I have never found in any other person and which it is not likely Ishall ever find again No-- Gatsby turned out all right at the end itis what preyed on Gatsby what foul dust floated in the wake of hisdreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrowsand short-winded elations of menIn the novel The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald we are giudedthrough the events of the past by Nick Carraway Nick lives in West Eggwhere new money lives as the next door neighbor of Jay Gatsby Nickhas grown up in a different society and was taught gentleman ways by hisfather After the summer parties and exuberant luxuries he becomesdisgusted by the modern culture and society Amongst all hishomesickness there e is someone that holds him back He is enamored withJay Gatsby despite Gatsby being the complete opposite of everything hegrew up to avoid Gatsby held him under a spell which he could not breakfrom as he experiences a fluxuation of emotions and feelings as hetransforms in the story Throughout the book and through this quote wesee that Nick hate a strong sentiment of disgust towards the lifestyleof the roaring twenties yet for Gatsby he makes an exception Gatsby who represented everything for which I have an unaffected scornThe above quote shows a paradox which Nick creates as he continuesliking Gatsby as far as becoming his only friend yet he representedeverything for which I have a unaffected scorn Nick was caught offguard by the liviness and childlike humour within Gatsby which hebecomes to see as an endearimg side of Gatsby in the end Gatsbyscapacity for hope is what makes Nicks paradoxical admiration possiblefor later on in the first chapter he realizes he too has the matter ofinfinite hope In the end of the book Nick yells across the lawnTheyre a rotten
