Gay marriage goes all the way back to Greek times Sappho was a Greek lyric poet born on the island of Lesbos Who wrote hymns to other women Human rights go all the way back to when women were trying to gain the right to vote or even hold a political position and also when we were trying to ban slave trade Homosexuality is no different than these topics Falling in love with the same gender has been around for a long time and is not something new to society While older people may think same-sex marriage does not follow the traditions of marriage our society has become more accepting of the topic and recently California has amended same sex marriage along with other states I agree with the arguments of David Mixner located in the Short-Prose Reader book yet I do not agree with the arguments of Charles Krauthammer Gay couples should be allowed to receive the privileges of marriage and equal treatment not as if they are the minority The arguments of Krauthammer in his essay When John and Jim Say I Do discover the opposing side of gay marriage and dive in to the negative aspects of the topic In the column he relates gay marriage to incest and perceives that if society allows gay marriage our world will start to diminish His thoughts on this topic are crucial and he is very upfront when it comes to voicing his opinion marriage is the union of two people of the opposite sex Gay-marriage advocates that restriction a product of mere habit or tradition or even worse prejudice Krauthhammer 328 He is hinting that the traditions of marriage will remain steady constant and when one steps over the barriers and marries someone of the same sex that is breaking these traditions that have been around forever Another column in the Short-Prose reader book follow the writings of David Mixner a political activist
