In the patriarchal Persian society gender is considered one of the most critical factors in determining an individuals status and worth among others The inequalities that arise as a result of difference in gender lead to male domination an attribution that partly defines Persian culture even in literature The authors of many Persian books try to demonstrate the significant cultural differences that exist between opposite genders by manipulating narrative techniques Hence after considering several literary works in translation the reader comes to notice a stereotypical image of female characters appearing as fragile vulnerable and powerless characters void of independence and strength It is of particular importance to notice that regardless of females roles in the storys plot line they exhibit less power and appear inferior to males Even though most short stories and lengthier works of fiction manifest females of subservient character they employ subtly distinct narrative styles to achieve such depiction Shorter stories with a straightforward structure make use of dialogues diction and tone to display the female gender as more dependent and less capable characters while lengthier stories indicate a need for analysis of imagery of actions and events in order for the audience to obtain a clearer perception of characters To start off the reader observes that many authors attempt to display women as powerlessness and dependent individuals As already mentioned in short stories authors successfully portray females lack of strength and need for assistance by calculated use of diction and dialogues These two narrative properties along with tone interact to create an atmosphere that allows the audience to get a sense of the character For instance in one of Goli Taraghis short stories entitled The Maid she takes the already specified narrative factors into consideration in order to show womens fearful nature and their defenseless persona By having one of the main female figures admit that she is scared Mohammad Agha will cut her head off if she
