Genotype is the name given to genes The genotype is the set of genes in an organism They are the genes that determine the phenotype The trait can be expressed either as homozygous dominant homozygous recessive or heterozygous Three possible genotypes can be formed from this AA homozygous dominant Aa homozygous recessive or aa heterozygous An allele is one particular gene from one parent Phenotype is expressed as someones physical appearance It is the trait observed For example tall or short When two alleles from traits combine they determine the phenotype of the offspring If one allele is dominant over the other this determines the phenotype For dominant traits there are three possible genotypes and only two possible phenotypes For incomplete dominance there is a third possible phenotype blending the two traits One allele for a specific trait is not dominant over the other meaning that the phenotype is combined For example a heterozygous snapdragon with red RR and white WW traits will result in RW because of the blending of the two traits For co-dominance the heterozygous phenotype will end up showing each trait For example if the trait was a homozygous brown cow and a homozygous white cow the end result would show the cow being a heterozygous brown and white cow spotted or patched For this the phenotype is nor dominant or recessive Pigment is produced from a living organism which have colour that eventually absorbs that colour and energy The process of a chlorophyll pigment starts by that plant grabbing the sunlight and then converting it into water and carbon dioxide and oxygen into minerals For albino plants the alleles of recessive traits are from both parents The gene of albinism stops the plant making the usual amount of pigments For green pigment the plant is able to photosynthesise and therefore has a normal growth development For albino plants they cannot photosynthesise as they lack chlorophyll and they end up dying
