Christie L Barron author of Governing Girls Rehabilitation in the Age of Risk illustrated how our government deals with Canadas risky girls in todays day and age A variety of methods treatments punishments and forms of exclusion are broken down for us to understand through clear explanations and numerous heartfelt interviews There were 24 youth authorities and 23 young females mostly aboriginal interviewees from Saskatchewan involved in her research Three youth correctional facilities that were involved Orcadia Youth Center in Yorkton Paul Dojack Youth Center in Regina and Kilburn Hall in Saskatoon Barron 2000p7 Barron began to conduct her research November 2003- June 2004 to study the impact of risk rationality by using the grounded theory to analyze her findings The grounded theory consists of there categories management punishment and treatment that will later be discussed in the book report Barron 2011 p 21Youth Court was established to protect and help children Later the youth court parents and girls themselves gave birth to the risky girl Barron 2000p9 You could say this image is tied with the now disregarded theory of Cesare Lombroso 1835-1909 whom said that girls were deviant unwomanly aberrations with out maternal instinct Youth at Risk and Youth Justice 2012 p 139 We now look at crime with the Doge and Pettit 2003 Bio-Psychosocial Model An approach used to study the involvement of girls in the criminal justice system that addresses the biological psychological and social risk factors Youth at Risk and Youth Justice 2012 p140As of now the YCJA attempts to respond to youth crime with a more inclusive framework focusing on public awareness crime prevention education child welfare health family and reintegration of offenders back into the community Sociology 263 2013 The YCJA is trying to be careful with whom they imprison especially when it comes to Aboriginal youth due to the fact that they are already over represented in the youth justice system Aboriginal youth in Canada represent
