A common complaint in America today and a large issue present inpolitical debate is the poverty level in the country It may seem strangeto have so American citizens and families in poverty living beneath theirmeans or on the streets when there are so many government assistance andredistribution programs in place To put the matter simply governmenthandouts and redistribution do more harm than good The governments currentmethods of providing financial aid to those in poverty or in need areineffective and failing the expectations the system set forth The currentsystems in place do provide assistance financially but the system alsomakes it near impossible for a person or family to come out of povertyCurrently the United States has more than 67 million Americans who receivesome sort of aid or handout from the government i this is the highest ithas ever been in our country Yet even with the amount of Americans ongovernment aid our poverty level seems to rise ii If the goal ofgovernment aid and handouts is to help those in need to aid them in asuccessful life why does the budget for aid and the poverty level continueto increase That statistic alone shows the ineffectiveness of Americascurrent program This is not to say that those living in poverty or whomust live with little to nothing do not deserve help or that helping thoseAmericans in need would be wrong America is a morally sound country andthe desire to help fellow man is a sound principle found in AmericansHowever the forceful collection by use of taxes and redistributing tothose the government deems in need is a violation of liberty The currentassistance programs not only fail Americans in getting them out ofpoverty but it also destroys the competitive workforce and economy thecountry was built upon In someones eyes that is on welfare or assistancewhat might be the reason if any to even get off assistance if it providesthe means to live Therefore
