The feeling of grief is often depicted in many different formsgenres of art such as literature and paintings In The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe the narrator is faced with many emotions including griefsorrowanguishremorsedepression In this poem the narrator lost a loved one and has been struggling to overcome this The painting My Time by Giovanni Rapiti reflects a male experiencing grief and despair In fact this painting appears to reflect the emotions that the narrator in The Raven is confronted with throughout the poem Many elements of the painting such as the sand the hourglass and the contrasting colors accurately reflect the emotions felt by the narrator and the overall mood in The RavenIn The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe the narrator feels as if time has stood still when encountered by a raven The raven constantly reminds the narrator of his lost loved one Lenore As stated in the second stanza Eagerly I wished the morrow vainly I had sought to borrow This indicates that the narrator desperately wants to be relieved of his griefsorrowanguishremorse after the loss of his loved one In the painting My Time by Giovanni Rapiti the sand within the hourglass represents the slow progressiondeceleration of time The male figure inside the hourglass resembles the narrator in The Raven The figure is stuck inside the hourglass and is attempting to find his way out Essentially the male figure is stuck in time which is similar to the way that the narrator feels in the poemThe male figure inside the hourglass relates to the narrators isolation from the outside world In The Raven the narrator can be seen as isolated from the outside world when approached by the raven He cannot stop feeling grief when the raven reminds him of his lost loved one In the painting the male figure is trying to figure
