Hedonism leads one to pursue and maximize the amount of pleasure and minimize the amount of pain The only thing intrinsically good in life is pleasure and the only thing inherently bad in life is pain WriteWork In Aldous Huxleys book Brave New World the principles of hedonism are depicted as the World State objective is towards making each person happy while minimizing pain such as grief and disease This pursuit and aim towards happiness in the World State is accomplished and maintained through the control of the government soma and conditioningIn Aldous Huxleys depiction of a satiric utopia which is supposed to be a cautioning for generations of the future the World State is a carefree healthy and a technologically advanced place However in order for the World State to achieve this stage and have this shared happiness in society they had to eliminate many things which were considered central to human individuality such as family art religion and literature which are controlled by the government Zayan Arts scienceyou seem to have paid a fairly high price for your happiness Huxley 230 Many things were sacrificed in order to achieve happiness In order for hedonistic people to stay happy the government or the Controller Mustapha Mond had to control what types of social media could be present in the World State For works such as the Bible or pieces written by Shakespeare to surface in the World State Mustapha articulated that these works were old and modern society would not understand So when John the Savage wanted to express his feelings with quotes from Othello a written piece by Shakespeare this was the exact reason that Mustapha did not want to let these works be available One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them for that reason these feelings were non-existent in the World State Huxley 234 Thus Mustapha believed that as long as one can express feelings they
