At a time when technology appears to be at its height it is important to reflect on the thinking of the worlds greatest minds to properly put things into perspective in terms of how these advancements affect our lives Martin Heidegger lived at the beginning of the nineteenth century and believed that technology could potentially be detrimental to the human race Conversely Steve Jobs lived at the beginning of the twentieth century and believed that technology was essential for human beings to provide themselves with vast amounts of knowledge These two men widely regarded for their brilliance had very different views about technology yet shared a passion when they spoke about it Martin Heidegger believed that technology was a method of thinking which was actually an essence or what a thing is that should be a means instead He believed that man needs to be a master of his own destiny and that technology threatened to overtake our freedom to make decisions that were our own Heidegger believed that the will to mastery becomes more urgent the more technology threatens to slip from human control He explained that man needs to establish an appropriate relationship with technology that would allow him to maintain spirituality in his life It should be a free relationship where he could open himself to the essence of technology while not allowing it to take away his freedom Jobs perceives technology from an entirely different perspective He believed that technology is a way of connecting the dots and finding a way to be happy Jobs felt that people should trust their instincts and believe that everything would work out Jobs lived in a world that was entirely different from the world in which Heidegger existed in Technology was an entirely different concept Today we are given so many opportunities and every person has been given the
