When I first enrolled in English 100Y this year I knew going into it I would eventually have to collaborate with others In high school working with others was something I always despised because I was at the mercy of my group members work habits So naturally when I discovered that there were two collaborative essays I was nonetheless a little dismayed However as the semester progressed I learned to appreciate working with others and even met some new friends along the wayThroughout high school working in groups was always something that upset me This is due to the fact that my grade on a test or project could suffer if one person performed poorly on the assignment In high school English teachers always gave group research projects and usually assigned three or four students to a group No matter what the project was there was always one student who failed to contribute anything to the project As a result the responsibility usually fell on me or someone else to pick up the other students slack to make sure our group received a decent grade for the assignment So when I first learned of the two collaborative essays I was anything but thrilled The scars from high school still remained and my view on group assignments remained the same Little did I know I would soon come to appreciate working in groupsThe first group assignment for the semester was a research paper We were given a few topics to choose from and I chose corruption in the United States government My group turned out to be me and one other student while some other groups had three or even four members My partner and I turned out to be really passionate about our topic so it was incredibly easy when it came to gathering information for our essay The hard part
