I visited the Mercer Museum in Doylestown to experience the historical art and artifacts in the museum The building itself was a piece of art The museum is located inside of the Mercer Castle built in 1916 for harry Chapman Mercer It was made from stone and the floors and walls were a cold stone color One would be able to tell thats the building was getting old from some of the stone from the pillars were falling out The museum has seven floors all filled with artifacts that dated back to the 1700s These artifacts included tools for agriculture weapons wagons boats stone tiles and much moreWhen you first step into the museum a painting is hanged up in the lobby The picture is of the Ringgold Regiment 104th Pennsylvania volunteer infantry The painting is crowded with civil war soldiers fighting as well as dead bodies covering the ground they walk The men who are losing limbs and being blown back by shots fired by the enemy gives the viewer of the painting a sick feeling knowing that men sacrificed their lives to fight for the country It is a gory picture that almost sums up what happened during the warMany artifacts stood out to me some more than others Something about this museum that made this museum different than others was that chairs baskets and tables were attached to the ceiling Harry Chapman Mercer had the idea that having visitors see familiar everyday objects in weird spots would make them look at the objects in different ways The pieces of furniture and the baskets placed randomly around the ceiling made the room seem chaotic and when standing under them one would fear that furniture would fall from the ceiling onto themThe Mercer Museum is mostly known for their historical tiles that date back to the early 1840s late 1900s They are located at the top floors of the museum where rooms are filled
