The National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA is animportant part of the United States functions due to the fact that itis one of the top researchers in the US and is the top spaceexploration organization in the world There are many people in the USthat think that NASA is getting to much money to spend each year NASAwas established by the National Aeronautics and Space act on July 291958 Also in 2009 NASA was rated one of the governments best placesto workNASA is a big part in the current age of discovery Historiansrecognize that there are three ages of discovery The First Age ofDiscovery was during the 15th and 16th centuries Some famous explorersduring this time are Prince Henry the Navigator Columbus and Magellan In this time period these explorers explored the New World theAmericas The Second Age of Discovery was during the 18th and 19thcenturies Captain Cook was a famous explorer in that time period There was also a lot more exploring and map making of the Americas TheThird Age of Discovery is between the 1950s to now There are a lot offamous astronauts in this time period like Neil Armstrong and BuzzAldrin Since humans have already for the most part explored thewhole Earth fully the only place there is for exploration is space This makes the worlds governments start a long hard race a race intospaceNASA does a lot of research and accomplishes many feats that seemalmost impossible For example the Apollo missions were one of themost amazing thing that humans have ever done in their many years hereon earth Landing on the moon seems an almost unthinkable thing to tryto do until John F Kennedy talked about the idea in one of his manyspeeches This was said on May 25 1961 After 8 years of work NeilArmstrong stepped foot on the moon on July 20
