Sex education became important to society with the change of the conceptof intimacy The change in the mindset in how people viewed intimacy iswhat led to the need for sex education In particular what was viewedsocially acceptable With the shift to move into cities from thecountryside and the Industrial Revolution there was a change in themanner in which people viewed intimacy Before the Industrial Revolutionmost people lived far apart in the countryside on farms People did notlive long and families were large with many children to help with thefarm However the Industrial Revolution changed this system Peoplemove into cities to live closer together family sized diminished as toomany children was no longer an asset both men and women went to workbut most importantly people delayed marriage and started to live longerInitially people delayed marriage because they wanted to pursue workLater as time progressed both women and men delayed marriage becausethey wanted to pursue higher education to obtain careers instead of justjobs The first sexual revolution in the 1920s mixed with Feminismcaused many women to want to delay marriage as working and highereducation caused men to delay In addition people started to livelonger because there was better access to food and quality of food As aresult people did not wait until marriage to have their first sexualencounter as they married later in life This changed how sex andintimacy were perceived Sex was no longer an activity performed betweencouples in wedded bliss for procreation it now was a leisureAdditionally young women and men spend more time together alone asjobs schools and other public spaces no longer segregated base on sexConsequently there was rise of children born out of wedlock and rampantspread of venereal disease The widespread of venereal disease calledfor action to be taking to educate people Education about sex was notneed before because people married early and had less sexual partnersBut with more people in cities and young people with more freedoms sexeducation became vital As
