Huey Long Louisiana Senator gave a national radio address onFebruary 23 1934 In Longs address he stated his beliefs on New Dealand how he believed it was unconstitutional Long believed that everyman should be equal That one person should not be born to inheritmillions of dollars while another man had nothing Long thought thatAmerica could dispersed the money from the rich to poor it would fixAmericas problems of their children who had no food or clothes towear His plan was to make sure every man had 5000 enough to for hisbasic needs while other men had no more than 50000000 Long alsowanted old-age pension of 30 a month that is over 60 Huey long hadsome good ideas about saving the countrys debt but it was not whatthe country needed instead New Deal wasThe reason that Huey Longs Share the Wealth plan did not work overNew Deal was because it was the idea of taking money from people whoearned it Long says that We hold hold the view that all men arecreated equal But if one man was to inherit 10000000000 andanother one nothing then that is not equal The people had to take inperspective that their was a reason that person did inherit that moneyThat money was not just handed to them but Long wanted to take thatmoney from them and give to the poor When at this time the poor neededjobs along with money New Deals ideas was better New Deal createdwork programs for the poor so they could earn their money and work forit This was better for the country instead taking the money fromsomeone else and giving it a person with out a job Long had a planwhere every man a king He wanted every man to have at least have5000 to supply them with what they need and no other man to have over50000000 His plan was inefficient to New Deal because New Deal hadprograms such as CCC for men
