Are there such things as witches Salem was settled in the colony of Massachusetts in 1626 Following the cities settlement there was a series of trials sentencing people to death for accusation of witchcraft These became known as the Salem witch trials The Salem witch trials were triggered by the hysteria of social imbalance of young evil women of Salem dishonesty and unfair rights and a series of superstitious propaganda The drama followed by the conscience of these younger women The social imbalances of these younger women were completely off balance because of all the signs of witchcraft These symptoms could be found in most everybody These girls including Rebecca Nurse Susannah Martin Sarah Good Sarah Wildes and Elizabeth Howe would use witchcraft or claim witchcraft to use to blackmail the citizens of Salem All the talk about witches was not completely truthful Everyone was just in fear about evil spirits so they were quick to judge The judges and magistrates trying the cases of the accused went only by spectral evidence that the accusers said was happening to them None of which could be physically proved For anyone to make an excuse for their problems and blame the unknown on superstitious propaganda is just complete ignorance In less than six months 19 men and women were hanged 17 innocents died in filthy prisons an 80 year old man was crushed to death and two dogs were stoned for collaborating with the devil Richardson 6 Rebecca Nurse Susannah Martin Sarah Wildes and Elizabeth Howe were hanged on July 19 1692 In early 1692 Samuel Parris 1653-1720 had a slave named Tituba There is said that she used to share voodoo like tales and stories with these women of Salem Some of the girls began to act strangely complaining of physical maladies visions and trembling They blamed this on Tituba and a couple other women Encyclopedia of US History 2009
