Hotel Rwanda depicts the horrific events that took place over 100 terrifying days in 1994 In the African country of Rwanda nearly one million Tutsi people are hunted down and killed because of their ethnicity This genocidal mass slaughter on the account of their cultural background and belief is considered to be one of the most inhumane acts ever recorded in history and to make matters worse this atrocity was accompanied by the fact that most of the world silently watched and did nothing to intervene However Hotel Rwanda is centered on protagonist Paul Rusesbagina a hotel manger of The Milles Collines and his demonstration of both courage and morality In the film Paul manages to save as many as 1268 people on account of his formed and informed conscience His conscience does not allow him to watch innocent people be killed and he begins to risk everything to helpMany of the events portrayed within the film can be related back to the concepts taught within the Religious Education course For example the Three Senses of Conscience are perfectly demonstrated within Pauls actions His actions show he uses his conscience not only as a process of moral reasoning but also as a way to judge We see Paul act in a manner that shows he believes that it is his duty to protect those seeking help on several separate occasions however a notable example is when Paul accepts more refugees into his hotel regardless of the fact that he has already reached the maximum number of people per room Although he could have simply said no Paul allows for more people to stay at his hotel simply because they are in need Paul clearly demonstrates that he uses his conscience as a process of moral reasoning as in this situation he searches out what the right thing to do is Paul knows the facts of the situation and what his moral values are He reasons
