Bridget's feedback:
"This is an ambitious discussion that draws in interesting elements and theories to explore the concepts. I recommend defining "madness" or "madmen" immediately for the purposes of the essay, as I was never entirely clear if you were applying the label to Foucault, Freud, and Poe. A late opposition is introduced (they were not "normal") but considering the depth of the rest of the discussion, I think this can be probed with more nuance, intention, and clarity. A first step may be to clarify if you are using Foucault to define madness or if you only use him to explain how society reacts; both appear relevant to the discussion, which often focuses on rejection and ostracization.
Another recommendation is to target the quotations, revising in order to integrate the quoted material into your text. You can use signal phrases or other guiding language that will help demonstrate your control over the sources. Related, check your style guide for examples and rules for punctuating around the parenthetical citations. Similar tasks will include aligning page and paragraph formatting with your style guide, proofreading (e.g., "Allen"), and other lower-order concerns that when resolved will facilitate a polished draft."
