UC Prompt 1 Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it If this is sounds like you then please share your storyAbout a day after I was born my birth mom slipped on her jeans and left the hospital Her name was Katie a 16 year old high schooler his name was Mark a 16 year old Latino teenager trying to survive I was somewhere in the middle a nameless face amidst their broken relationship I was adopted at three days old Being adopted has been hard at times It requires you to stand tall and proud no matter what the circumstances and to look at yourself like Hey I made difference Being adopted has been hard on me for example I had a friend in eighth grade named Sarah I trusted her so I told her that I was adopted She responded by asking me if my mother was a slut I didnt know what to say I just turned and walked away What should have passed between us me talking about how adoption should not be viewed as something only whores do In fact being adopted is the best thing that happened to me I find it so easy to accept people now to not judge and to care For example one day my best friend came up to me and told me she was pregnant I had never experienced this so I didnt know what to say My thought went to Katie and my story and I found the words to comfort and heal her My ability to put judgment aside has made me a better stronger person The reason I can say that my life and my autonomy comes from the fact that I am truly loved My parents never beat me never truly are mean to me and they never ever abandon me I
