The day was December 7 1941 when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor It was a day that started like any other but would have a tragic ending Pearl Harbor devastated families friends and the entire nation Many people wonder whether Pearl Harbor was an event that could have been avoided if people had paid attention to the events that happened beforehand Many factors led to the attack on Pearl Harbor it really was just a matter of time before the Japanese were going to attack After Pearl Harbor people started to react and help anyway they could Pearl Harbor is still affecting us today and it continues to damage our environment America and Japan had many differences that led these two countries to be leaning towards war for over two decades There was a lot of mistrust and tension between these two countries because Japan was trying to take over China In addition America started to help China and stop sending resources to Japan According Naval History and Heritage Command Japan was poor in natural resources and its government viewed these steps especially the embargo on oil as a threat to the nations survival Overview This embargo was just the beginning of events that were fueling a fire for war Japan had planned their surprise attack without any mistakes and with one purpose which was to destroy the Pacific fleet Japans strategic plan was on disabling Americas naval base The United States was surprised because they had suspected that the Japanese would first invade the Philippines America had not suspected that Hawaii would have been their first target Japans idea was to leave America defenseless so that Japan could spread across the south Pacific Hence America would not be able to intervene in Japans affairs without weapons The Japanese had done tremendous damage to
