The era of the nineteen-fifties and sixties was a very delicate timefor American society There was so much fear and paranoia about war thatone could not even talk about the situation at hand without beingaccused of being a communist or a Russian spy Multiple authors such asRay Bradbury and Scott Westerfeld have lived through the time of thecold war and have expressed opinions through fictional writing byusing metaphors and familiar situations that the United States had facedduring that time period Fahrenheit 451 has many correlating situationswith the cold war era which leads one to believe that Bradburysmotivation to write this was inspired by the communism that took placeSince that was a huge problem at the time Ray Bradbury like many other authors wrote about what he knew Butinstead of creating a nonfiction novel of the cold war he created afiction story that correlates His story was about a firefighter stuckin a world where everyone was supposed to be the same In the world ofFahrenheit 451 the citizens were deprived of knowledge which came inthe form of books It was the firemans job to burn the books and keeppeople in the dark The society in Fahrenheit 451 was the opposite of the United Statesbecause instead of being against communism the society in Bradburysnovel was pro-communism They wanted everyone to have the sameknowledge and when Guy Montag Bradburys main character decided toread a book he was hunted down by the government This is just like theRed Scare when our government threw people in jail if they weresuspected to be communists even if they were just a man off the streetWhich reminds me of when Montag said They would have killed methought Montag swaying the air still torn and stirring about him indust touching his bruised cheek For no reason at all in the world theywould have killed me It sounds pretty irrational to throw some randomperson in jail just because maybe they said the wrong thing at
