Everyone loved John F Kennedy he was my brother and I dont thinkanyone suffered his loss more than I did The assassination of mybrother left me devastated and turned me into a completely differentman After my brothers death I didnt know what else to do so I wroteletters to my children Kathleen and Joseph II saying As the oldestKennedy family members of their generation they had a specialresponsibility to remember what their uncle had started and to love andserve their country Writing these letters made me feel a little betterbut still the wound was too deep Things just became worse when mypolitical party asked me to introduce a film about my brother in 1964It was like opening my sealed wounds everyone was crying and I wasabout to break down but I kept strong A few months after that andafter long nights of thinking I decided to run for a seat in the USSenate as New York representative and thankfully I beat my competitorKenneth Keating by a large margin which helped me regain my confidenceand get me back up going strong for the years to come Everyday that pass was just a growing agony for my life Although Icounted with the support of many people it still was not enough for mePeople just kept asking me the same questions over and over again Thetruth is that my brothers death became a big motivation in my lifeAfter going to Dallas for a campaign speech I started thinking whatelse I could do for my life So I sat down and started writing thingsthat I wanted to achieve The most important was that I didnt want toperform a strong investigation on my brothers death The main reasonwas because he was already gone and no one could bring him backThe next day I went from Dallas to NY to visit my family and givethem support At my house I saw many pictures of my brother Thesepictures inspired me to run
