Bridget's feedback:
"This is an interesting investigation that establishes logical connections between cause and effect and offers a valuable corrective toward a more nuanced understanding of the hyphenated American experience. However, without citations and references to time (year, decades), the discussion feels a little vague or unmoored, impacting ethos and credibility. Start to introduce your research into the essay, such as using in-text citations (recommended) or a list at the end, so the reader can engage with your work on the topic and understand why your words are authoritative. Clarify context using years (such as in the first sentence of para. 2), and help the reader understand when and how long the trends you identify occurred or lasted.
In the copy I've read today, the text is presented twice. My comments above assume this is an easily fixed error, but I want to mention it because until the reader understands what is happening, the experience with your discussion becomes quite confusing. Taken at face value, the repeated text throws off the reader's understanding of the purpose and intention, and is a good example of how a straightforward formatting issue (or similar) can have a major higher-order impact. Make sure to review any final copy alongside proofreading and checking line spacing, indents, and other page and paragraph elements against your style guide."
