NSLC opened my eyes to the world of politics but gave me perspectives on life that would forever change my personality It was two summers ago for a single week I was attending a National Student Leadership Conference camp in Washington DC based on National Security and Intelligence It took my views of how the world operates and allowed me to strive to become who I am today Everyday we had simulations and different topics on how to become a leader impacting the confidence within myself I was appointed to be the Director of National Intelligence within our simulation and we had random obstacles to overcome each day Taking on a role of such decisiveness encouraged me to speak up within my group I did not know any of these people and would normally stay quiet among strangers but realized my duty had importance even though it was a simulation However the students I was with knew more than me in the world of politics as it seemed they all wanted to work for the government later on in life I had to take a stand to put in my views from the understandings I had gained throughout my life in order to work through this situation After these simulations we all discussed how we could better prepare ourselves or the strengths and weaknesses of each other These discussions helped me to discover that I needed to be more confident in my own ideas I was told my solutions were feasible and considerable I just needed to introduce them in the simulation I took these aspects from them and put the concepts into place the next day It did not work immediately but over the days to come I had been able to specify and contemplate such confidenceToday I have realized how this experience took my morale to the next level allowing me to more actively participate than when I was younger and had
