There are so many different kinds of music out there In fact there are over 500 genres of music today Theres pop country rock rap heavy metal hip hop jazz blues gospel and so much more But there are also about 200 countries in this world and there are so many different cultures and people out there Different people listen to many different genres of music and that is something we all appreciateThe music that we listen to can define who we are It says something about who we are and what we believe perhaps in ways more illuminating and honest than we could ever conjure on our own since words alone often diminish the grand ideas and feelings we have inside1 It can define our outlook on life they way we dress or act the people we associate with In a study at Heriot-Watt University researchers asked more than 36000 participants to rate over a 100 genres of music and add information about their personality They noticed trends in outgoingness self esteem creativity and other personality traits showing that affects who we are2Music is a unifying force It unites people of common interests but also it is something that everyone can listen to no matter who they are We all have our personal favorite styles but we all listen to music Everybody can find a song or artist that they can connect to and find meaning in Even though cultures have their own styles and instruments such as African drums Irish fiddles Latin American maracas Scandinavian accordions Australian didgeridoos and others we all have cultivated the art of music Music is a way for us to express ourselves to the world and to be welcomed into the world of music We may each enjoy different styles but music is music Its the same thing with people We all have our differences but we are all still people Music unites us and brings us
