Identity in Sojourner Truths Address to the First Annual Meeting of the American Equal Rights AssociationEveryone is this world has an identity some parts of it are changeable and others are not From birth and all throughout her life Sojourner Truth has had the distinctiveness of a slave oppressed upon her Sojourner Truth in her Address to the First Annual Meeting of the American Equal Rights Association inspiringly speaks about the equality colored women should have Truths purpose of her speech is to bring the white men and women to the senses that they have to fight together to end the imbalance in the societyThe discrimination is not only between the white and colored but also between the men and women Truth portrays the unfair treatment of women by comparing a man and a womans wages This can be shown through her explanation that the master would pay the men doing no more got twice as much pay as the women This also allows the women in the audience to have a personal connection with Truths experience of being mistreated by her master Truth states that it would not be praiseworthy if the men got their rights and the women never got theirs rights otherwise the colored men will be masters over the women and it will be like nothing ever changed A master would still enslave the colored women and the identity would still be attached to them negatively Truth usage of the word master brings back all the memories of mistreatment In other words she explains the inequality between overpowering men and mistreated women through context
