For Methods of Research I was instructed to read a research article entitled Its an Uphill Battle Everyday This article deals with the topic of HIVAIDS particularly how it impacts Black heterosexual males The purpose of this article is to evaluate how the intersection of raceethnicity gender Socioeconomic Status SES impact the ways in which they describe their life experiences as well as hint to interlocking systems of oppression Most importantly this research was conducted to show how essential it is to take into account how the study of the intersections of many social identities can be useful in developing HIVAIDS prevention strategies The authors of this research article are Lisa Bowleg from the Department of Community Health and Prevention School of Public Health at Drexel University Michelle Teti from the School of Health Professions at the University of Missouri David J Malebranche from the Division of General Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and Jeanne M Tschann from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California-San Francisco The fields of study that are associated with this research article are Sociology particularly the feminist theoretical framework of Intersectionality Black feminist theory and scholarship specifically in the discussion of the interlocking systems of social inequality Public Health study is to show how Intersectionality can add to the development of HIVAIDS prevention strategies and Criminology in which they ask questions about incarceration police surveillance and harassment conflict theory of criminology The topic of this article is the Intersectionality of racial discrimination Black Heterosexual Males with a Low Income Status and the implications for HIVAIDS prevention approaches Bowleg Teti Malebranche Tschann 2013The HIVAIDS epidemic has impacted Black heterosexual males at a disproportionate level Though black males only account for 14 of the population they made up 47 of new cases of HIVAIDS in 2009 and they also accounted for 69 of the new cases of HIVAIDS due to heterosexual exposure among all men Bowleg
