Ships at a distance have every mans wish on board For some they come in with the tide For others they sail forever on the horizon never out of sight never landing until the Watcher turns his eyes away in resignation his dreams mocked to death by Time That is the life of men Now women forget all those things they dont want to remember and remember everything they dont want to forget The dream is the truth Then they act and do things accordingly Hurston 1 In this novel the first paragraph focuses on an unusual perspective of gender difference It says how men never really try to reach for their dreams but women chase them constantly trying to fulfill them I picked this quote because it shows the different ways men and women are It says how women always try to reach their dreams and never settle for less just like Janie eventually did Guys will settle for anything It just takes time effort and determination to try to reach them To start off wid people like dem wastes up too much time puttin they mouf on things they dont know nothin about Hurston 6 This quote explains when Janie arrives back in town The people of the town are all gossiping about her People are assuming things that never happened just trying to make her look bad The people have no clue what Janie has been going through in the last several years I picked this quote because this happens in todays world as well People constantly gossip and say things about people that most of the time are not even true Also many people say things about people they dont even know This business of the head-rag irked her endlessly But Jody was set on it Her hair was NOT going to show in the store It didnt seem sensible at all That was because Joe never told Janie
