Geoffrey Chaucer tales The Canterbury Tales the prologue he describes different characters His work is well known around the world especially because of the fact he was still able to write with humor when he lived in a time of turmoil Although his work was well known in these tales he wrote in direct and indirect characterization He explains grave detail about the character like for instant in for the doctor and the woman of bath For the woman of Bath she had five husbands which if fairly frowned upon Chaucer was placing the fact she was committing adultery She was a worthy woman of all her life Indirectly he makes us question her mortality and if marrying the men meant anything to her giving them her lifelong commitment It also questions her ability to be independent The Woman of Bath being deaf brought great pity on her That of her being deaf indirectly was like putting a burden on other people to look after her and watch make sure she was doing fine However her being deaf did not make her unattractive she was still able to get married The next detail about her was the fine woven ground fabric that she wore Chaucer states the fact that it weighed a good ten pounds to her Indirectly its stating like she had a lot of burden weighing on her The sign of her wearing the fine fabric also implied the fact of how wealthy she was The Woman of Bath also wore red stocking Who wears red stockings
