Recalling the first day when I came to the United States for studying abroad I have noticed how it was difficult to survive in such a new community where has differences not only in language but also in culture Even though I was confronted with not only interactional norms but also language that differ from my home country I still believe that studying foreign language ie English in the country where that language is spoken could enhance the learners ability to improve significantly In my attempt to clarify that the previous issues not only occur with myself but they also could be occurred with others international students The following paragraphs will illustrate the salient problem and why these issues need more investigation Through interlanguage pragmatic competence is a subdivision of second language research that is still one of the most challenging skills for second language learners to obtain Kasper 1992 As newcomers to a foreign country the interaction with native speakers fluently becomes a goal which the second language learners often do not completely accomplish due to the limited knowledge of capably using and comprehending speech acts correctly House 1993 At this point pragmatic competence is an essential concern that could assist ESL students to avoid communication failures by immersing in the target language and culture Although many studies have been investigating the development of learning foreign language in study-abroad SA context they have been known as the development of foreign language in a foreign language setting rather than the SA context Since the studies in this area have just started to appear in the last few decades Freed 1995 Therefore this issue becomes the crucial problem which leads for more investigation The present study will investigate whether the
