Who owns my life Do doctors have the right to determine the value of ones life Euthanasia is a controversial issue amongst many Euthanasia is a practice of ending ones life from suffering a terminal disease by the means of legal injection or to stop medical treatment It can be traced back to Greek and Roman civilizations Euthanasia was first legalized in the Netherlands in April 2002 Belgium became the second country in September 2002 In the United States the state of Oregon enacted a physician-assisted suicide law in November 1994 In some countries euthanasia is performed without a persons consent Some believe that legalizing euthanasia in all countries will save money on healthcare Euthanasia is not a solution to end human sufferingProponents feel that euthanasia should be legalized because doctors are carrying this process out anyway and it is a persons human right to decide In the countries that this process is legal doctors are supposed to follow guide lines Following these strict guidelines is supposed to protect a persons will however in the Netherlands doctors are going against the law and using euthanasia without the consent of the patient The Remmelink Report was released in September 1990 proving that doctors were abusing the guidelines that were created to protect patients The data showed that 400 patients were provided the means to kill themselves 2300 patients were killed by their consent 1040 patients were killed by doctors without their knowledge or consent and 4941 patients were given lethal doses of morphine without their consent If doctors can not follow guidelines that are set to protect people what should be expected to gain from legalizing euthanasia in all countries Doctors are sworn in to protect and treat patients Claims are made that money could be saved on healthcare by legalizing euthanasia Proponents feel that it cost more money to
