In an era where the Internet is one of the most used technologies in theworld are humans becoming dependent to it Are people having troublereading finding information or solving problems without the web Thisis what concerns Nicolas Carr an American writer who was a finalist in2011 for the Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction He shows hes concernby stating that the way the Internet deliver information is affectingthe way we think and cogitate While Jamais Cascio wrote in GetSmart that the Internet is a new development for humans to enhancetheir thinking Looking around colleges libraries I have seen students on theircomputers opening numerous tabs on their window page These students aregetting distracted by these multiplies tabs and they are not applyingthemselves to concentrate one tab at a time This is when one starts tounderstand that the Internet is becoming a problem because the Internetis starting to shape the way we think I myself am a victim of thisrewiring influence of the Internet therefore I agree with Nicholas Carrbecause technologies are harming our understanding of the difference ofqualities verses quantities of personal relationships virtualcommunications and our interactions with othersCarrs claims that nowadays people are so scatter minded that they arebeginning to lose their ability to concentrate and deeply think Hesupports this claim by stating that he has become a part of the Internetinfluence because he cannot apply himself to read extensive articleswithout getting distracted 57 He had to enforce his mind toconcentrate which deep reading that used to come naturally has becomea struggle for him 57 On the other hand Cascio states thisdistraction that is influenced by the Internet is a formation of ADDwhich is Attention Deficit Disorder that will enhance humans knowledgeand make them more intelligent 96 He goes on by exemplifyingscientists are proclaiming that ADD are skills called the fluidintelligence this is a new method for humans to indulge their criticalthinking to find meaning in confusion and to solve new problemsindependent of acquired knowledge 96
