Without no doubt immigration has become one of the most controversial topics of debate here in the United States Just as immigration has grown so has the numbers of those who oppose immigration Weve learn that immigration has been part of the United States for a long time and a while back immigrants from Europe mostly came to the US Once the 1960s hit the geographical source of immigration shifted to Asia and Latin America Since then the US has been known as a nation of immigrants We are noticing nowadays that the origin of the immigrants has shifted dramatically in the recent decades So I asked myself Is Third World Immigration a Threat to Americas Way of Life After reading this weeks readings I noticed how questions arose about the impact of immigration on various aspects Such as social economic political and cultural landscape of the United States I realized that some see immigrants as the natural product of a society that proposes to be a land of opportunity others see contemporary immigrants as a threat to the US social fiber But personally I do not think that is a threat to Americas Way of Life I would have to agree with Isbister In his Issue he clearly argues that cultural impacts of immigration are positive constructive changes that most Americans will benefit from living in a more multicultural society and that tension between the different ethnic groups can be alleviated Not only from what Ive learned in this course but in other courses that Ive taken Ive been able to take note that when ethnic groups within one society are able to accept their different customs and beliefs tensions are decrease At times even function better than their previous state When we have a better understanding of someone else or another culture we start to become more open minded and not start to accept that there are many other ways in life We
