Islam Religion Belief In Allah and affirmation of His Oneness God is known in Arabic as Allah which distinguishes Him from ilah which could refer to any gods once worshiped in Arabia Islams fundamental belief is the Unity of God All other beliefs hang on this belief The acknowledgement and bearing witness of this is the key to the Muslim faith Unless this is observed one cannot be a Muslim A Muslim accepts Allah as the only God and only Master Lord and Ruler with no partner sharing in any way His Being Powers and Attributes He is One He is Unique He is not the father of any one nor He has or had any father He is Almighty and Self-Sustaining He is there forever and will be there forever For Muslims God is unique and is without equal They attempt to think about God without either making him into a thing or a projection of the human self The Koran discourages believers from creating a physical vision of God Muslims accept the teachings of both the Jewish Torah and the Christian Gospels They do on the other hand believe that Islam is the perfection of the religion Muslims believe Jews and Christians have strayed from Gods true faith but hold them in higher esteem than pagans and unbelievers They call Jews and Christians the People of the Book and allow them to practice their own religions Pbsorgempireislamcom Islam Today Islam followed by more than a billion people today is the worlds fastest growing religion and will soon be the worlds largest The 12 billion Muslims make up approximately one quarter of the worlds population and the Muslim population of the United States now outnumbers that of Episcopalians The most populous Muslim countries are Indonesia Bangladesh Pakistan and India The number of Muslims in Indonesia alone 175 million exceeds the combined total
