A 47-year-old man whom we will call Rob stole fifteen dollars from a convenience store and consequently was sent to prison on a charge of petty theft Because the crime he committed was so trivial Rob was allowed to go through a rehabilitation program of his choice He chose a basic computer skills program After a few short months of learning how to efficiently use a computer he was released on parole for his extensive improvement through participation in the rehabilitation program As soon as Rob was released from prison he began using his newfound computer skills in ways they were not meant to be used After posing as harmless young man on the Internet he planned a meeting with a 16-year-old girl Upon their private meeting the girl realized the danger she was in however it was too late Rob had already raped her So once again Rob was sent back to prison and in his trial admits to the courtroom that prior to his rehabilitation program he had no knowledge of computers America is not punishing their criminals instead it is making them more knowledgeable Research has shown that rehabilitation programs are costing innocent hard-working Americans money as well as allowing violent criminals to permeate the safe neighborhoods Americans are trying to create for their children It is up to each individual to make every attempt possible to insure the American dream In order to achieve a place in which you and I feel safe to live and raise our children we must rid society of these vicious criminals In response to occurrences like the one mentioned above concerned citizens are taking a stand and forming non-profit organizations that are fighting for tougher punishments on Americas criminals However for these organizations to survive concerned individuals must make every attempt to provide them with the funds necessary to endure the struggles ethically sound organizations in America deal with each day of their existence
