James Earl Jones was born on January 17 1931 in Arkabutla Mississippi to Robert Earl and Ruth Connolly Jones Robert had several jobs but he focused on his acting career and Ruth was a school teacher Although Robert Earl Jones struggled with a speech impediment at a young age he inevitably became known for his pleasingly soulful voice This same voice has been the key to success for James Earl Jones He has many accomplishments and has been recognized for several of his works as an actor When Jones was very young he and his mother left their home in Memphis TN and departed for the Mississippi Delta region where Ruths parents lived Ruth would later leave James Earl Jones to be raised by her parents John and Maggie Connolly Sadly after moving with his grandparents he saw his mother only on special occasions therefore he came to know his grandparents as his parents Because his grandfather was a farmer Jones became a farm hand at an early age His chores included milking cows and feeding pigs He said his grandfather was the hardest working man he ever knew Brady He credits his grandparents for teaching him how to be industrious and independent Because many of his family members were storytellers he figured that he grew up with the spoken word Jones was raised on storytelling which would later earn him worldwide recognition Jones and his grandparents moved to Dublin Michigan when he was five years old On the way his grandfather had intensions to leave James Earl with his paternal grandparents in Memphis Tennessee Upon the realization that this was to be his new home Jones refused to stay John and Maggie took him back to Arkabutla for a short time until they decided to make the move to Michigan with their grandchild As time elapsed Jones began to stutter and because of this he spoke only when it was required His speech
