In the United States one of the most controversial predicaments toever arise was achieving racial equality Even one hundred years afterAbraham Lincoln freed the slaves racial inequalities were still veryreal in the US Martin Luther King Jr during the 1960s inspiredthousands of people to fight for civil rights one of those was thepresident of the time John F Kennedy JKF gave his civil rightsaddress at the University of Alabama after a series of threats to twoAfrican Americans Kennedys life speech and audience show what hebelieved in and why he felt it was time for the people to changeJohn Fitzgerald Kennedy was born on May 29 1917 to Joseph and RoseKennedy During most of his early life Kennedy spent most of his timesick in bed reading and learning becoming a much more rounded personThis made it easier to see around the all of the racial ineptitudes inhis life and see the greater good in people Through out his life hisfather pushed him towards self improvement and competition so he couldmake himself a better person Inspire by Grandfather who was a skilledpolitician Kennedy ran for governor of Massachusetts and won in 1946After being elected governor he went on to run for president in 1960 hewas elected as the Democratic nominee Civil rights wasnt originallyone of his main focuses but after the incident at the University ofAlabama and the recent Cuban missile crisis he was quickly convinced toadvocate for civil rightsIn his Civil Rights address John F Kennedy had several issues to makeaware to everyone He first addresses that fact that this nation wasfounded on the principle that all men are created equal he uses to telleveryone that if one mans rights are restrained then the rights ofevery man are in danger His next issue is that to promote and protectthe rights of everyone and those who wish to enjoy those privilegeslike every other American should be able to enjoy them regardless oftheir race or color
