The murderous crime of Oedipus is the reason he should be shunned according to his own punishment he set for the murderer of King Laius but I believe this crime is a justified homicide Long before Oedipus was born the oracle had prophesied of the birth of a son who would kill his father in order to marry his mother and bear children with her Oedipus the son in this prophesy was left to die as an infant with his ankles bounded together atop a mountain when his parents King Laius and Queen Jocasta heard the oracle but the oracle is never mistaken therefore the child Oedipus was rescued and fulfilled the prophesy Throughout the story Oedipus proclaims badly about the killer of King Laius to the people of Thebes which is indeed a form of irony because he is cursing himself being naive which his fault isnt Oedipus is now afraid of what is to come because Jocasta his wife told him there was an eye witness and Oedipus believes it was not his fault to committing the crime that I was fated to lie with my mother and show to daylight an accursed breed which men would not endure and I was doomed to be murderer of the father that begot me 883-886 The defense of Oedipus shows that his traitorous crime is not his fault because the oracle had laid this prophesy upon him without his opposition The crime of Oedipus should be considered a justified homicide because the oracle had to choose a person to lay the prophecy on and take the crime in which must be fulfilled therefore Oedipus had no intentions to do this crime making the act murder on accident
