In this weeks Torah portion Ki Tavo the Israelites enter the holy land of Israel After forty years of wandering the desert G-ds promise was now a reality Once in the land of milk and honey G-d says The Lord will strike you with madness blindness and dismay You shall not prosper in your ventures but shall be constantly abused and robbed with no one to give help This quote really stood out to me it was very negative and disappointing When I read this I felt like it was completely going against Judaism hoping that someone gets hurt or robbed is not ok The last part of the quote - with no one to give help is the most disappointing part of all Judaism is all about helping one another and being there for them when they need help When this quote said that no one should help I felt very confused because the Torah is all about doing what is right This quote is very important to me because I know how essential helping friends or strangers really is This relates to my life because I know that there are many times in my everyday life where I need help from my friends or where they need help from me This is also important to me because hoping that someone were to get hurt is cruel No matter what the person did it is never ok to hope that they get hurt If someone is competing against you in a sports game you should always hope that your team does well but not that the other team loses or that their best player gets injured Another thing to take away from this quote in the Torah is to always help others In Judaism we are always taught to help others and to do what is right but not everyone does it when it is their time
