The Shakespearean play of King Lear is a play that stimulates the audiences minds by using strong ideas through different characters and issues that make a statement on human society An idea reflected in our society in the play is the role of women in civilization which is shown through the example of King Lear and his three daughters Cordelia Regan and Goneril Because the role of women in society of today are seen as equal to the male counterparts King Lear is set during the eighth century where the discrimination and exploitation of women both differs from and reflects the past to the present which creates a great judgement of the treatment in women in history in contemporary times and also shows how it is present now Because this issue from the play juxtaposes the past to the present times it creates a strong opinions from the audience on how human society has developed since Shakespeares portrayal of history King Lear creates a deep analysis of the role of women during the eighth century where women were seen as inferior and less powerful than men This is shown through the only female characters appearing in the play of Goneril Regan and Cordelia These daughters are the offspring of King Lear which shows that they are also royalty that also claim significant power over most of England However during this time period male domination is evident due to them being the only females in the play with the large amounts of male characters evident Cordelia is labelled as one of the only pure and true characters in this play which is evident through the line I cannot heave my heart into my mouth I love your majesty according to my bond no more no less This line shows the goodness of her personality which females in human society are categorized to act as Because Cordelia explains how she cannot describe her love for her father
