In an interesting conversation recently I told a friend if you want to know something about ones character watch them compete in a game Are they competitive How far are they willing to bend the rules to win How much effort are they willing to apply before quitting or do they ever quit A simple game like duck-duck-goose can usually tell more about someone than a rsum Well I feel our recent investment philosophy confessions parallel ones game play and have a strong correlation with our very own personality Asking their investment strategy to someone is another way of saying what are you like So in order to get to know one another better I feel it best to expand on the subjectI am the kind of person who sets realistic high goals and works tirelessly to achieve them while learning and having fun in the process According to University of California-Riverside professor Cecile K Cho and social psychologist Heidi G Harvorson PhD people who set higher goals are usually more satisfied than those individuals with lower expectations The news may not be shocking to most due to obvious reasons but the important aspect is to understand how and why Professor Cho conducted an experiment involving stock-picking to compare individuals who set ambitious goals with those who set more conservative goals Then she rated the level of satisfaction of the achieved goals and determined that those with higher achieved goals where more satisfied and happier in the long run I believe the higher the personal risk the higher the personal reward The previously mentioned social psychologist and the author of Succeed How We Can Reach Our Goals Heidi Halvorson PhD supports the relationship between goal achievement and happiness She suggests Safe bets generally speaking are less valuable ones and adds So once youve achieved the relatively easy goal its only natural to think about what its cost you in
