For this first assignment I had chosen to do an investigation on the landscape architecture work the Forbidden City of China The reason why I chose the Forbidden City was because since I was a child I have been fascinated by the enormous size of the city and the culture that lies behind the walls As a Chinese and Taiwanese descendant I had always been intrigued by the history of China mostly by how the emperors had ruled and governed the once powerful country Just by looking at some of the images of the Forbidden City in Beijing one would be amazed by the astonishing architecture and landscape that the place has incorporated within The sheer size of the buildings and the luxurious gardens would immediately grab hold of the tourists minds enticing them to wanting to be situated in that specific setting experiencing the power being at the central axis of the royal court house sitting at the one and the only chair that turned a single persons status into a ruler of the whole entire country the Emperors throne One can also experience the wealth of the garden by venturing through the attractively sculpted stone caves charming ponds and sitting under a cherry blossom tree with a cup of green teaThis five hundred years old monument the Forbidden City of China was the imperial palace commencing from the mid-Ming dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty it was built by Emperor Zhu Di from AD 1406 to AD1420 This magnificent city which consists of 980 buildings and covers up to seven million eight hundred thousand square feet of land is situated in the center of the capital city of China Beijing This project designed by many architects and was then inspected by the government official for approval was done by collaborating with multiple people However the Forbidden City project was lead by two main chief architects Cai Xin a Chinese descendant and Nguyen
