Communication is the basic essence of nature and life for all living things need to communicate In nature communication is just one way Each species has its own rules for communication however humans have the most complex system of communication To the point that people get lost in this system and they no longer know how to communicate According to the Edwards Wahl and Myers in their book the communication age there are four types of communication They simplify these types by turning them into metaphors so that it would be easier to understand These metaphors are communication as transmission communication as interaction communication as transaction and communication as social constructionCommunication as a transmission is the model that describes communication as a linear one way transfer of information in which a source sends a message through a channel or a medium to a receiver Edwards Edwards Wahl Myers 2012 I personally use this metaphor a lot since I am an art major I am required to create art works that has the information I want to send out to the viewer Nevertheless the viewer doesnt always receive the information I wanted to send If I wanted to continue in graphic design I have to learn how to send all the information I want to and for that art to have a universal meaning that the receiver does not have to interpret the message in numerous of ways This leads me to the second metaphor which is communication as an interaction According to the text book communication as an interaction is a model that describes communication as a two way process of reciprocal action involving feedback Personally this is the metaphor I use the least It is important to give feedback and receive it but for me it is easier to receive it For example sometimes I am required to create art pieces that are open to interpretations and honestly I enjoy working on an
