Familiarity is a strange thing we take things for granted because we are too used to having the comfort and security of familiarity But when things of familiarity to us are questioned or threatened that is when we start to look at the bigger picture and realize how important the small things are Something we do not realize that might be possibly threatened is the language we speak whether it is a complete language or dialect of a language In countries with multiple dialects long have there been debates about which one should be the dominant dialect Having a dominant language or dialect opens the path for extinction of different languages or dialects that are not the most popular in a specific area There should be a place for everyone who speaks a different language or dialect than the norm in their communities to be able to express themselves with their own personal and unique languages and dialects A controversy that is brewing relating to the dominance of a dialect and language lies in China where Mandarin is primed to become the main dialect over Cantonese and less popular dialects Mandarin a language resulted from a mixture of medieval Chinese Mongolian language and Manchurian language during Mongolian and Machu rules is now widely used and falsely claimed as the legitimate successor of medieval Chinese something a blogger recognized and blogged about Lairy Supporters of this movement claim that Mandarin is already the dominant dialect and it would do no harm to announce it officially and to extinct Cantonese completely Despite what people assume there is a big difference between Mandarin and Chinese Both the Mandarin and Cantonese dialects are tonal languages where one word has many meanings depending on the pronunciation and intonation Cantonese has nine tones whereas Mandarin has just five making it easier to learn Boland In fact as a native speaker of Hakka a country slang dialect of Chinese I can attest
