During three years of studying English Language and Communication I have got the opportunity to learn and perceive more about bilingualism In addition I am a bilingual in Lithuanian and Russian languages which are very different orthographically and phonologically Consequently I had the ability not only to admit or deny my current information and opinions about bilingualism in the lectures and seminars but also I could some of the information to adapt to my own experience and compare with it Before I have started to study at the University I conceived bilingual as a person who can speak two languageswithout putting any effortsfrom childhood This statement during university studies has not changed a lot but I definitely got broad perception about bilingualism from different angles However I had some other thoughts about bilingual that I definitely changed during my studying timeTo begin with in the first year of my university studies I had the Language and Mind module where I have learnt about the brain parts and his functions which are responsible for language processing I have learnt and understood how each part in the brain is responsible for own tasks and if one part is damage in the brain a person lose a certain function Also I have learnt abouta hypothesis that in bilingual children languages are represented in different areas of the brain Hoff 2009 316 Using the positron emission tomography PET was find out that if they second language knowledge is highly proficient they use the same areas in the brain and if it is proficient knowledge of language they use different parts of brain Hoff 2009 317 Hence in this module I understood that brain is not just one part but it can be divided to others part which each has a function and it can help us understand which parts of for example bilingual brain worksIn my second year in the university I had the Learning and Teaching Language module
