When I was growing up it seemed to me that I was always around conversations about politics especially when I was around my grandfather I would listen in on conversations that my parents and grandparents would have about who was a better candidate or what was ticking them off about what was going on in office I was too young to really understand what they were talking about until I grew up and realized it was effecting me When I was in High school I started taking classes that involved the explanation on how our government works I paid close attention to every aspects so I would have a clear idea when it came time to start voting I did not really have a particular idea what party was doing what but being surrounded by my family as strong Republicans and I was leaning that direction At the Age of eighteen I registered to vote it was an election year for the Presidency Mr President Ronald Reagon was running against Mr President Jimmy Carter I remember watching some of the primarys and listing to the two candidates debate about the economy and foreign issues I would discuses my thoughts with my parents to get their inputs In Nov 1986 I went to go vote for the very first time I was a little nervous but excited to know my vote counts towards the next President of the United States When I was in my 20s I would keep up to date on occasions on what was going on with the Federal Government and State Government but wasnt really to concerned as I was more interested in starting my life with a career and a family at the age of twenty-one I enlisted into the US Navy my attention once again focused on the Government especially on the federal Government since I was now an employee I wanted to know about how
