I looked up to my great-grandmother She lived until she was 93 But I say 92 because that last year was a tough one especially for my mom who would take care of her every day When she died it was at a great expense to my family and I She was amazing She was sweat she was kind she was generous and she was everything that a wife a mother a grandmother and a great-grandmother could be I never really got to know her as much as my mother did But I would still see her almost every day and sometimes even stay there if my mom had to go out someplaceMy mom still tells me stories about her when my mom was a child My mother would be there all day in the morning before school and in the afternoon after school until her mother came home from work These stories that my mom would tell me about my great-grandmother always make me laugh The stories about my great-grandma screaming while in the garden then chopping the snake with her hoe the ones about how she had her whole yard as a garden growing everything from carrots to kale and the ones about canning everything she could for the winter In my great-grandparents yard there is also a well They used their own well for water and everything Its so cool It is amazing of how that that long ago people had to rely that much on only what they had and what they could affordLearning the story of my great-grandmother means a great deal to me I now know not to take things for granted because people did survive without the things that we have now People back then DID actually survive by 20 cent bread and anything they grew in their gardens and I truly respect that Even though there is no event in particular that changed my life just by
