Lewis and Clarks exploration of the Louisiana Purchase gave us knowledge of the land we hand just bought from the French No one had ever explored the Louisiana territory before And wanting to someday move west Thomas Jefferson appointed Meriwether Lewis to be in charge of an exploration of the unknown terrain Lewis then got William Clark a map maker to accompany him on his journey Later on their journey seeking the help of a Native American girl named Sacagawea helped them communicate with the other native tribes and served as a guide through the landThe most important thing to come out of the Lewis and Clark exploration was that there was no straight water path to the Atlantic they would have to cross the rocky mountansWith this information they could rule out the hope of ever finding a north-west passage This would also be helpful for those who will someday move west to prepare them for what they will have to endure Detailed mapping by Clark allowed everyone to see how big the land we bought really was and proved to us that a journey there is possible The expedition gave us hope that we could one day move and settle in the west But without the help of Sacagawea their journey could have ended Sacagawea helped communicate with the other tribes telling them they meant no harm and wanted peace Their exploration of the Louisiana territory was a success in that they made all the way to the Atlantic they mapped out the land and found put that they would have to pass though the Rockies and not have a straight water rout to the other side
