After the civil war and the reconstruction and widespread industrialization started there were many changes in united states There were major turning points that affected Americas current society economy politics and culture One major turning point was that three reconstruction amendments were adopted The thirteenth fourteenth and the fifteenth amendment were passed during the reconstruction The thirteenth amendment abolished slavery or any involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime this was the first step for the non-whites The 14th amendment declared that any person born or naturalized in the united states was by the very act an American citizen deserving of equal protection of the law This granted full citizenship to all black people and states were prohibited from restricting the rights and privileges from any citizens The 15th amendment prohibited any states from denying citizens the right to vote based on race color or previous conditions of servitude This amendments freed many blacks from slavery it created a new path for them to start a new life even thought these laws stayed dormant for quite a while it shaped the world we live in todaytwo railroads met the union pacific and the central pacific in Promontory Utah in may 1869 This was something to celebrate about because it meant that the railroads could run from coast to coast the construction of the railroad was a major turning point because it meant that things could be transported long distance more easily Markets started exchanging goods and people would were able to get fresher products because transporting good by train was faster it allowed larger quantities of goods to be transported over longer distance Also heavy stuff like steel could be transported this was a big boom because now more railroads could be built around united states But railroads werent just usable to transport products people instead of traveling months to get to a place were able to travel long distance in only
