Hooligans Hoodlums Delinquents Every time we open a newspaper or watch a television programme we are bombarded with images and descriptions of young people in this derogatory manner Here is an idea why not call them teenagers Year by year innocent young adults in the UK continue to be subjected to negative depiction and description from an ill informed and wholly biased media And for what Across the planet teenagers are viewed as immature carefree children that hang about the streets and cause trouble with the constant contrast being made of present teenagers and those from 50 years ago People wonder what has happened to their morals and maturity when really there is only one answer The Media Role model a person who serves as a model in a particular behavioural or social role for another person to emulate It sounds good in theory However the people who are considered role models today clearly to not live up to this idealistic definition Reality television stars from programmes like Geordie Shore The Valleys and The Only Way Is Essex are undeniable proof of this Instead of promoting wholesome values these D-list celebrities encourage binge drinking promiscuous sexual activity and an obsession with superficial appearance What happened Fifty years ago it is surprising to note that across many surveyed countries an average of 90 of students had drunk alcohol at least once in their lifetime Nowadays this kind of delinquent behaviour is common knowledge to most parents teenagers and doctors And for doctors it has been known that children as young as nine has been treated in hospital due to alcohol related problems Astoundingly 60 of admissions to AE for alcohol related issues were young people aged between thirteen and fifteen So why are teenagers suddenly feeling the requirement to drown themselves with all these death drinks Does it maybe have something to do with the fact that reality stars lives are shown as them going out
