In Elizabethan times by age fifteen half of live births died This period of history was extremely difficult for survival due to plagues syphilis and other diseases Elizabethan times were filled with new theories practices and medicines being used by people practicing medicine in order to improve the life of Englands citizensPhilosophers played a large role in medical development in England Galen was one of the major influences on medical practices in England Galen combined ancient medicine philosophy and his own research in order to make a comprehensive medical system Galen was known for his famous Four Humors theory and educated physicians of the Renaissance followed and used this theory when treating patients Galens works were mainly focused on by humanists of the Elizabethan time period Around 590 separate editions of Galens widely used texts were published between the times of 1500 and 1600 Saari 448 Galen was one of the first of many influential philosophers to influence medicine in early EnglandFrancis Bacon was another influential philosopher on medical practices in early England Francis Bacon mainly focused on improving medical advancements in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries Francis was defiantly viewed as more of a philosopher than a scientist but was actually the first person to combine both science and philosophy together Francis wrote his Advancement of Learning in 1605 in which explained what he thought was the poor state of medical profession Francis argued that scientific conclusions should come from observable phenomenons and proven facts He also stated that knowledge can only come from experimentation and observation of facts Francis believed that science should be inductive which meant scientists should work down to specifics and then make a general hypothesis rather than using deduction which was making a general assumption and then working down to specifics Lace 98 Although his generalizations may seem insignificant they helped shape the basis of medical advancements throughout EnglandDoctors and scientists played a large role in modern medicines of
